Evernotes and Slides for Presentation

Evenotes

Today, we learned how to use an Evernote.
I think, the learning potential of Evernote is very high.
Especially, I liked the way we can save the screenshots easily and can annotate, draw some characters on it.
I have used Evernote as an application before and at that time, I thought it is not helpful at all, because we cannot edit the note at the same time like Google Docs therefore we need to refresh it all the time if we want to use it on two different computers at the same times.
However, web clipper is much better because we can separate it as different notebooks and therefore it will be well organized.
Compared to Zotero, it is much more visualized and it is very nice.
For me, it was very hard to capture informations from wordy Zotero notes actually...
So now I am really happy to know the correct way of how to use an Evernote!

Watching videos about C.R.A.P.

This video shows a designing principles for slideshows.

C stands for CONTRAST
which includes
-color contrast (text compared to the background...strong/weak, good/bad)
-size contrast (title compared to the subtitle)

R stands for REPETITION
which is because we can
-search for information
-capture information
-organize and store information
-share information
-involves teamwork
Therefore we should repeat the elements for example, imagery, font style and size, in order to make a collaborative production.

A stands for ALIGNMENT
we should put the words where it is cognitively right.

P stands for PROXIMITY
-title and subtitle/name institution must be separated. (don't make it squashed)

What was new to me was
-no 1-7-7 slide
-no graphs made of mixture of woods and metalics
-make slides that are effective for audience to remember and learn
-use serif fonts to make words easy to read ("san" makes the words more thicker)
-avoid using clipart
-don't use animations video or sounds to entertain

What I already knew was
-no documents
-no slide-uments
-no notes
-no graphs with too much information
-no missleading graphs that might confuse the audience
-no bad contrasts
-use large, high-resolution photos that can communiate clear message
-avoid using anything with watermarks
-avoid cute things
-make sure your images are relevant
-use as few words as possible

Our topic for the final presentation is "food".

I am taking a part of "washoku boom"!

We had "washoku" signed up for a UNESCO? and from that time washoku is on a boom.
For example there are lots and lots of sushi restaurants all over the world,
and bento, a Japanese lunch boxes are now so pupolar in France!

I would like to make sure that I won't make any of the mistakes shown in here for my final presentations...!
Hope I can do a great job :)

Thanks for reading till the end and sorry that this is very long...! :P

Database Tools

Last class, we had a follow-up session on database tools which we learned on spring term.
I actually did not remember many things from the library orientations because at those time I was dead working for the 18 Retreat.
Therefore, this time was an absorbing session.

We touched 5 different tools, which are Gale Virtual Reference Library, LexisNexis, ProQuest, JSTOR, and ICU Discovery.
I would like to talk about ProQuest that our group presented in the class.
Our task was to find a source on "hate speech" and introduce how we found it.

Firstly, we opened ProQuest and I was surprised how simple it was.
We typed in "hate speech" and there appeared so many results.
We chose one of it and there I could read some parts and we could get some information about hate speech.
Secondly, we found a way to get the MLP(7th edition)'s citation. It was amazing.
Now I am kind of sad because I do not know how to describe but what I was struggling so hard in the Spring?
I thought it that way.
Lastly, we clicked a right up button then we could save the source information to Zotero.
Wow. What I could say was only that.
When writing an essay, what I hated the most is organizing swelling number of sources.
But now, I will be able to do that with a click!
How technologies are simple!

I really want to show this to myself in the previous spring.
